Nebeur Delegation
Nebeur Delegation
The Delegation of Nabeur is one of the delegations of the Kef Governorate, located in the northwestern part of the Republic of Tunisia. It was administratively established in 1969 and was named after the city of Nabeur, which serves as its administrative center. The delegation is situated approximately 170 kilometers from the capital, Tunis.
The Delegation of Nabeur is bordered by:
- To the north: Jendouba Governorate
- To the west: The delegations of Touiref and Sakiet Sidi Youssef
- To the south: The city of El Kef
- To the east: Siliana Governorate
The Delegation of Nabeur is located approximately midway along National Road No. 17, which connects the cities of El Kef and Jendouba.
The city is adjacent to the Oued Mellègue Dam, a historic dam that has been in operation since 1957. The dam is used for electric power generation, supplementary irrigation for several agricultural areas in Nabeur and Sidi Khiar, and it also contributes to the fish resources of various freshwater species.
The
city of Nabeur is a
mountainous town surrounded by forests on all sides. It stands at an altitude of about
900 meters above sea level, while the
highest point in the delegation reaches approximately
1,200 meters.
Forest production in the city of Nabeur
The city of Nabeur is known for its rich natural environment and vast forests, characterized by evergreen landscapes and mountain ranges covered with pine trees, which give the area a breathtaking natural beauty. Among these trees grow various types of aromatic and medicinal herbs, which are distilled and used in the pharmaceutical industry.
The forest area in the Nabeur region covers approximately 28,250 hectares and serves as a diverse habitat for many species of wildlife, including the wild rabbit, tortoise, hedgehog, wolf, fox, and wild boar.
The region also contains a
forest nursery near the
Oued Mellègue Dam, extending over an area of
5 hectares. This nursery is noted for its
high production capacity, producing around
3,500,000 plants annually, thereby contributing to
national reforestation efforts and the
preservation of forest resources.
Hunting and Game
The forests of Nabeur are rich in biodiversity, hosting a wide variety of wild animals, among which the wild boar is the most prominent due to its large population in the area. This abundance of wildlife has made Nabeur a popular destination for hunting enthusiasts, especially foreign hunters who visit the region specifically to practice the sport of game hunting.
The
Oued Mellègue Dam Lake is also an
important natural resource, contributing to the
production of fish that meet the needs of the local population. A portion of the catch is distributed to other regions across the country, thereby strengthening the area’s role in the
development of national fish resources.
