 Transportation within Tunis

Getting around Tunis is fun and diverse, with several options available to suit different needs and budgets. Here are the most important ways to get around Greater Tunisia:

Railway transport

  1. Metro

It is the most popular means of transportation, and is a tram that connects the city center to the nearby suburbs.

  • Lines: There are 6 main lines, all of which converge at Barcelona (near the train station) and El Gomhuria (Passage) stations.

2. Train network (railways)

Trains in the capital are of two basic types depending on your destination:

  • Northern Suburb Train (TGM): departs from Tunis Marine Station (end of Habib Bourguiba Avenue) and arrives at the marina. It is a tourist train par excellence that passes through Carthage and Sidi Bou Said.

  • Southern Suburb Train: It departs from Barcelona Station in the city center to reach areas such as Rades, Hammam-Lif, and Burj Sidria.

3. Buses (Yellow And Private)

  • Tunisia Transport Company: These are traditional yellow buses. Its network is very huge and reaches the furthest point in Greater Tunisia.
  • Private buses (such as TCV and TUT): More comfortable buses, the ticket price is a little more expensive, and they often guarantee you a seat. You can find its main stations in "Passage".
  • Digital alternative: Use the Moovit app; it sometimes incorporates private bus routes into suggested navigation options.

4. Taxi

  • Yellow taxis with meter (meter) – Make sure the meter is turned on before setting off.
  • Most trips within the city are affordable (depending on distance and time).
  • At night (from about 21:00) an increase in fare may apply.

 Individual taxi applications

Apps are the safest and most convenient way to order a taxi, especially at night or peak times:

  • Bolt App
  • Yassir application (makes it easy)
  • inDrive app

5. Grand taxi

  • A very popular method available in the capital.
  • Its color is yellow
  • Operates on fixed roads, and installs them as soon as they are full (8 passengers).
  • Cheaper than a regular taxi, it is a good option for a local commuting experience.
